July Saito Obituary
July (Sugimoto) Saito passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at the age of 93. She is survived by her children Tami Joy Hirahara and Tak Saito, and grandchildren Jonathan Hirahara, David & Erin Saito, along with several loving nieces and nephews. Tami Joy is married to Jim Hirahara and they reside in Pleasant Hill, CA. Tak is married to Linda Okawara and they reside in Salinas, CA. She is pre-deceased by her brothers and sisters- George, Ben, John, May, Lil & June. July was born as the youngest of seven children on July 4, 1922 in Lancaster, CA to Katsutaro and Tami Sugimoto. As a graduate of Antelope Valley High School and Junior College, she enjoyed music and held the first violin seat in the high school symphony orchestra. She also played ukulele in Camp Posten's Hawaiian band while she was re-located to a Japanese internment camp during World War II. Taking advantage of a work program for internees, she and her sister June lived & worked in Peoria, IL for the owner of a photography studio. After the war, she returned to California, where she met and married Takamori Saito and they moved to Fresno. July and Tak, of Tak's Barbershop, were married for 53 years. After returning from Illinois, she was a housewife and took care of her daughter and son until they graduated from college, at which time she joined the workforce. After holding a position in retail for several years, she worked for the County of Fresno and retired after 12 years of service. On behalf of July, her family would like to express their appreciation to the friendly and helpful staff at Vintage Gardens Assisted Living Community, where she resided for many years. The family would also like to inform the public that they will not be holding a funeral service.
