June Heggeness Obituary
June 7, 1921 - January 29, 2017 June Lorraine Heggeness passed away early in the morning on Sunday, January 29, 2017. Having spent the previous day in the company of her loving family, June went peacefully at her home in Seal Beach, California. "Grandma June" was 95 years old. Born on June 7, 1921 in Forsyth, Montana, June was the second child and only daughter of Thaddeus and Fay Heisler. June spent her childhood in the town of Mandan, North Dakota before moving to Fargo to attend North Dakota Agricultural College (now North Dakota State University), where she received a bachelor's degree in 1942. While pursuing her degree, June met and fell in love with a dashing young man named Clark Heggeness. After a lengthy courtship, June and Clark were married on May 8, 1943, although Clark's wartime service would keep the newlyweds apart for much of the next two years. After the war, June and Clark moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Clark studied law and June gave birth to the first of seven children. After Clark finished law school in 1948, the budding Heggeness clan pulled up stakes and headed west, eventually settling in Long Beach, California. June played an active role in her new community, joining several civic organizations and eventually serving as president of the Long Beach Lawyers' Wives Club. As her family continued to grow, June's children became the focal point of her life. When she wasn't volunteering for the PTA or working with the Assistance League, she could often be found tap dancing around her kitchen while singing her favorite songs. A devout Catholic, June was a member of the Legion of Mary and a devoted parishioner of St. Barnabas Church, where she was a reliable fixture at the 8:00am Mass for years (especially when her grandchildren would serve as altar boys). June was forced to call upon her deep faith in 2007, when Clark passed away after 64 years of marriage. Now, after nearly a decade apart, June has finally been reunited with the love of her life. June is survived by seven children: Terry Heggeness (MJ), Jan Swanson (Jerry), Jaclyn Hatfield (Bob), Jo Severson (Jon), Doak Heggeness, Ole Heggeness (Tricia), and Julie Heggeness; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at All Souls Cemetery, 4400 Cherry Avenue, Long Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Heggeness Family Scholarship at North Dakota State University, 1241 University Drive North, Fargo, North Dakota 58102.
