Obituary Condolences

April 5, 1940 - June 21, 2015 Kathryn M. Blonder Pavik was born on April 5, 1940 to Irvin and Lilian Mikus Blonder in Los Angeles at St. Joseph's Hospital. Her parents had married in NYC and moved to Los Angeles where Irvin worked as an engineer at the Lockheed plant that produced the P-38 for WWII. Irvin Blonder's parents had immigrated from Austria and settled in Connecticut to farm, while Lilian's family had immigrated from the Ukraine to live in NYC where Alexander Mikus was a bus driver for the 5th Ave Bus Company. After the birth of Kathryn, the Blonder's bought a home in Burbank, on Orange Grove Ave., amid the orchards and little Kathy went to the elementary school that eventually was named after Walt Disney. She graduated from Burroughs HS and went to both Los Angeles City College and UCLA. She met Jim Pavik, her husband of 53 years, in 1961. They eloped on January 24, 1962 and were married at the Santa Barbara Court House. With help from their parents they bought their first home in Panorama City and raised 2 boys and a girl, while her husband studied for a master's degree¿ at UCLA. Upon Jim's graduation and employment, they purchased their lifetime home in Granada Hills amid the ranches in that area. Kathryn began work with the LAUSD and subsequently became the registrar of students at Chatsworth HS until her retirement in 2006. Kathryn and her husband were called by the Lord in 2004 and after invitation from her daughter began attending Calvary Chapel Burbank pastored by Tim Anderson. Kathryn and James renewed their vows of marriage before the Lord at the Colony Theater in a private ceremony performed by Pastor Anderson, which was attended by their children.¿ Kathryn had deep interests, including reading mystery novels,¿ and had rediscovered her childhood passion for all things "western American", especially cowboy films. She was totally devoted to her family and friends, never being willing to anticipate¿ any future that would separate herself from them. She was both brave and resigned in the face of her chronic illness. In the last year of her life she was on the the liver transplant list at UCLA, to which she eventually succumbed on June 21, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family in her Granada Hills home at the time of her union with Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband James Pavik; her 3 loving children, Christopher, Nicholas, and Susan; their devoted spouses, Lisa Pavik and Kelly Kerr; and their darling children Katie, Maya, and Liam. Her dear friends were cherished by her until she was taken. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday¿ morning, August 15th, 11am at the Calvary Chapel Burbank Church at 2707 N. Glenoaks Blvd in Burbank. The family asks you to dress comfortably and send contributions in Kathryn's name to Guide Dogs of America, 13445 Glenoaks Boulevard, Sylmar, CA 91342, (818) 362-5834, in lieu of flowers.
