Kelly Lavon Hester Obituary
November 10, 1934 - March 28, 2016 Kelly was born on a farm near Erick, OK to Orva "Hoot" and Verda (King) Hester. They moved the family West in 1933, first to AZ, and on to Anaheim, California the following year. Kelly graduated from Valencia High School in Placentia, before enrolling at Occidental College. A world class athlete, Kelly excelled in throwing discus and was a favorite to win a medal in the 1964 London Olympics, before suffering a broken arm while in training. After earning a Bachelor's Degree, he enlisted in the US Navy and flew from an aircraft carrier as bombardier-navigator in most of the world's oceans for three years. Next, he started a long career in the Midwest with Lockheed Aircraft and then IBM. Kelly passed away quietly and peacefully at a nursing home in Mankato, MN, where he had resided for some years following a stroke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalyn in 2006. His survivors include his step-daughter, Roxanne; brother, Leron Hester; first wife, Evelyn; and eight nieces and nephews.
