Kiyoko Hiramatsu Obituary
November 14, 1914 - March 3, 2016 Born in a Buddhist temple where her uncle was the priest in the Aichi Prefecture, between Tokyo and Osaka. She and her mother immigrated to California when she was 6. Her father, Dr. Sanji Oda, practiced in Watsonville, CA, Ogden, Utah and Santa Maria. She graduated from Oberlin College, Ohio, in 1937. In lieu of staying in the US Relocation Camps her family returned to Japan in 1943 via a repatriation ship, the USS Gripsholm, which took a south Atlantic route to Goa, India at which point they exchanged places on a ship from Japan transporting westerners returning to the US. She was in Japan from 1943 to 1952. In 1977 she married Richard Hiramatsu of Santa Maria. Kiyoko is survived by stepsons Dale (Sara), Eric (Leigh) and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Memorial Service is April 2 at 11:30, at Christ United Methodist Church, Santa Maria, CA.
