Sister Laura (Laurence) Siebert RSHM Obituary
April 7, 1926 - January 4, 2018 A Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 71 years, Sister Laura Siebert died on January 4, 2018, at the age of 91, at Regina Residence in Orange. Born in Long Island City, New York, she graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in 1943 and entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary Novitiate in Tarrytown in 1944. She received a BA in English from Marymount College, Tarrytown and an MA in English from Loyola University Los Angeles, as well as a California Secondary Teaching Credential. Sister Laura was a highly dedicated and beloved teacher and spent her 46 active ministry years in the field of secondary education as teacher or Principal: 1946-1957 at Sacred Heart of Mary HS in Montebello; 1957-1959 at Corvallis HS in Studio City; 1959-1967 at Mother Butler Memorial HS in San Jose, as Principal for three of those years; 1967-1970 at Marymount HS in Westwood as teacher and Principal; 1970-1982 at Instituto Marymount, Cuernavaca, Mexico; 1982-1991 at Sacred Heart of Mary HS in Montebello, as Principal for two years; 1991-1993 she served as Provincial Secretary; 1993-1994 she was on Sabbatical in Boston; 1994-1995 at Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary HS. She actively retired in 1995 to the RSHM Community Center in Westchester. In 2001 she retired to Casa Guadalupe and in 2011 Sister Laura went to Regina Residence in Orange. Sister Laura's ministry in her later years was devoted to keeping in touch by ongoing correspondence and phone calls with so many of her past students especially those of Sacred Heart of Mary High School and Mother Butler Memorial High School. She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her brother, Andrew Martin. She will be greatly missed by her brother, Andy, her RSHM Sisters, the CSJ Sisters in Orange, all those who cared for her at Regina, and her many students and friends. Her Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 820 N. Garfield Avenue, Montebello, 90640, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. A reception will follow at the RSHM Conference Center, 441 N. Garfield Avenue, Montebello, 90640. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Avenue, Culver City, 90230, at 1:30 p.m. May she rest in peace.
