Lenore F. Orfirer Obituary
April 30, 1928 - March 12, 2017 Lenore Faye Rosenberg was born in Cleveland, Ohio, beloved only child of Hungarian immigrants Bertha Silberger Rosenberg and Michael Rosenberg. She earned her Bachelor's degree at Ohio State University in Columbus, where she met a dashing medical student, Mark Franklin Orfirer. They married August 20, 1950 and remained together until Mark's death last March. Lenore began her career as a medical technologist, then became a full-time mother upon the birth of their daughter. The young family moved to Southern California in 1955 and had a son in 1956. Lenore later returned to school, earning a Master's of Science in Library Science from USC with highest honors. She became the first and only Medical Librarian at Santa Monica Hospital, creating the library and managing it for 37 years. In the mostly pre-Internet era, Lenore played a vital role tracking down critical patient care information for hundreds of physicians-from residents to senior staff-and other medical personnel. It was important and rewarding work. Lenore and Mark shared a number of interests, attending many museum exhibits, plays and films, and traveling extensively. Lenore is survived by daughter Julane Marx, son Dennis M. Orfirer, and grandchildren Brandon J. Gale and Naomi Roun Orfirer. A memorial will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 2838 Overland Avenue, Los Angeles. Those who wish to honor Lenore may contribute to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (www.curealz.org).
