Leo John Treciokas Obituary
October 4, 1927 - December 16, 2015 Dr.  Leo John Treciokas, a dedicated neurologist, accomplished medical researcher and devoted husband and father passed away on December 16, 2015 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California where he had been on staff since 1969. He was 88. Born in 1927 in Kaunas, Lithuania, he was the only child of Joseph Treciokas, a prominent dermatologist and Alodia Dicius Treciokas, an opera soloist. The family fled their homeland in 1944 to escape Soviet occupation and emigrated to the United States. Dr. Treciokas received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and doctorate in Physiology from the University of Illinois and his medical degree from the University of Kentucky. A neurologist for 47 years, he worked at both his own private practice in Santa Monica and at UCLA Medical Center, where at one time he served as Associate Director of the Movement Disorder Clinic. He was involved in developing new and innovative treatments for Parkinson's Disease and he also helped to develop the Botox program at UCLA, treating patients for a variety of movement disorders.  Beloved by his patients and colleagues, Dr. Treciokas loved practicing medicine. A proud and grateful American throughout his life, he remained devoted to his first homeland and was involved in many activities to advance the cause of the Lithuanian nation. His ashes were buried alongside those of his parents and grandparents this past Saturday, June 11 at Svedesai Cemetery near his family farm in Lithuania. Dr. Treciokas is survived by his wife, Nijole, his two daughters, Ina and Laura and his grandson, Jasper Leo.
