Leonard Shapiro Obituary
September 11, 1919 - December 9, 2015 Leonard, 96 of Monticello, NY passed away from complications of Alzheimer's on 12/9/15. Leonard was valedictorian of his class and attended Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. He served in the Army during WWII as a Chief Warrant Officer. Leonard moved to LA in 1967 where he built his own business Elless Distributors, from 8 customers to over 500. He sold his business at age 60 and started a new career - Los Angeles gadfly. He wrote of the wrongs he found in local gov't in his self-published Los Angeles Observer. He boasted many members of City and State gov't were part of his 2000 paid subscribers. During this time, Leonard also took LAUSD students on field trips to see local gov't at work. He ran for LA Mayor in 1993 and stayed interested in local politics until his 90's. He is survived by 3 children; Maddy, Jack & Melodi; 3 grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan & Paul and a brother, Chester.
