Lesley Devine Obituary
Lesley lost her courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, January 5, 2006. She as one of the founders of the City of Calabasas, serving as City Councilmember for 14 years and Mayor for two terms. A strong environmentalist, she led the fight to stop the "Ahmanson Ranch" project and save the "Soka" property for future generations to enjoy. She earned her often quoted title as the "Soul of the City." She was a long time Democratic Party Activist and was a founding member of the National Women's Political Caucus, San Fernando Valley Chapter. She is survived by her son, Michael Chambers, his wife Sarah, daughter, Beth Saphier, and Lesley's life partner, Michael Brockman. Services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Sinai, Hollywood Hills, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles. Phone: (800) 600-0076. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Calabasas Klubhouse Parent Participation Group (CKPPG) with donations sent in honor of Lesley Devine. Mail to P.O. My husband and I are very sorry to hear of the loss of Ms.Devine. It seems as if she was loved by many. For that reason I know this time is very difficult for you all. I hope that you can take comfort from God's word that promises that, in the near future, no one will say "I am sick" (Isaiah 33:24). As you await your reuniting with Ms. Devine, our prayers are with you.
