Leslie Brooks Beck Obituary
August 20, 1949 - January 6, 2016 Leslie Brooks Beck passed away January 6, 2016, at home in Denver, Colorado, his residence of 19 years, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. He fought a valiant battle with cancer over the last year. He was born on August 20, 1949 in Oklahoma City to Cecil and Julia Elliott Beck. His family was large, with dozens of cousins, aunts and uncles nearby who were an integral part of his childhood. One of those uncles, Eddie Bridges, taught young Brooks to play the guitar and his lifelong love of music developed from there. He was born with a gift and would go on to entertain many people in the course of his life with a voice that was a mix of Jim Morrison, Kenny Rogers and Uncle Eddie Bridges. His band from Oklahoma City had a large local following in the 1960's. He was drafted during Vietnam and served in the US Army for two years. He and several friends from Oklahoma drove to California in a VW Bus after being discharged from the military and ended up in Laguna Beach, CA to create a band called Nobody, with a large fan base in the Newport Beach area during the 1970's, playing for years at the Cannery Restaurant. He married in 1984 and had his two precious daughters in California. Brooks moved to Denver in 1997 and lived out his life there. He was a loving father to Chelsea Beck Sellem and Savannah Julia Beck. He leaves behind his beloved wife Cathy DiMuzio, his daughters, his son-in-law and best friend Johan Sellem, his grandchildren Delainy and Lockhart Brooks Sellem, his sisters Cindy Bayne and Carol Hoipkemier in Oklahoma, their children and countless cousins and friends. He was a gentle soul, a natural with children, and loved horse racing, music, football, his family and a good irreverent joke. He will be greatly missed.
