October 2, 1929 - October 27, 2015 Born to George Englehart Schroeder and Grace Louise (Gilliam) Schroeder in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away suddenly in his own home in Huntington Beach, CA from heart disease. Lew leaves behind his loving second wife Delona Louise (McWhorter) whom he married on Apr 20, 1970, stepsons Claude Lee and Orville Dean, their spouses Janet and Robin, four step-granddaughters Leanne, Kristi, Jenny and Brandi, their spouses and children, and sister-in-law Kathleen. Lew graduated from John Muir College (A.A. degree) on June 17, 1949. Pasadena City College (Junior Certificate in Engineering) on June 16, 1950, and U.C.L.A. (B.A. degree with Honors in Geology) on Sept 13, 1952. He was a Registered Geologist and Geophysicist and belonged to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Lew served as a GM IFC Operator in B Battery, 551st AAA Missile Battalion (NIKE) and received an Honorable Discharge on Nov 30, 1961. He worked at Standard Oil in the Exploration Dept and discovered oil in Alaska, California, Utah & Mississippi. Then he worked at McCullough Oil & took early retirement. He grew very close to his stepsons and their families and became a loving and devoted caretaker for his wife who suffers from Alzheimer's. Lew had a zest for life, enjoying the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing and target shooting as well as appreciating a good cigar, wine, a funny story or joke, and always looked forward to family gatherings, where he was the life of the party and always the last to leave. We will miss you, Lew, and may you rest in peace.
