Linda Carole Stewart Obituary
July 2, 1947 - March 24, 2017 Linda Carole Stewart, loving sister, aunt, and trusted friend, 69, of Redondo Beach, CA, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 from breast cancer. An award-winning producer and environmental activist, she was born in Cleveland, OH, daughter of the late Homer Eugene Wills [1926-1990] and Amelia (Amy) Antonina (Piro) Stewart [1926-2002]. Recognized for her exemplary casting skills, Linda produced twenty-seven Clio and three Golden Lion branding campaigns for such distinguished clients as Oscar Mayer, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Chevrolet, Volkswagen, Boeing, American Airlines, Visa, and the EPA. Among the first women to become an executive-producer-owner of a production studio, she was best known for Cucoloris Films in Venice Beach. She co-wrote and produced "The Earth's Best Defense" as a Founding Executive Committee member of the Natural Resources Defense Council, and over twenty public service TV spots, including Farm Aid, the Mark McGwire Foundation for Children, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. She served as General Manager of the Explore division of the Annenberg Foundation, mentored the Work Force LA CBS Summer Film Program, and was a three-time recipient of a Certificate of Honor for Public Service from the City of LA. Among her triumphs was 2002's Arctic Wisdom, a message project of non-government organizations, celebrity activists, and 1000 Inuits lying on the Arctic sea ice and spelling out their ice-melt plea. A photo of the event appeared in 128 newspapers, including The Washington Post, and London's The Sunday Times, serving as catalyst for The Inuit Circumpolar Conference, which established global warming as a human rights issue. She was predeceased by brother Gregory William Stewart of Charlotte, NC, and survived by her brother Shaun John Stewart of Redondo Beach, nephew Gregory Stewart Jr. of Los Angeles, and sister-in-law Deb Stewart of Charlotte, NC. A celebration of life was held on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the Canal Club, Venice Beach, CA.
