Lois D. Uttal Obituary
October 3, 1925 - December 8, 2015 Lois Uttal, long time Pacific Palisades resident, passed away peacefully at age 90 in her Palisades home on Tuesday morning, December 8, 2015. Lois Delson Uttal was born in Chicago, on October 3, 1925, the only child of Florence Robinson (Schlesinger) and Harry Horowitz. After her parent's divorce, Lois and her mother moved to Los Angeles, where she met the love of her life, Irving Uttal. They married in August 1949 and eventually bought a home in the Palisades in the mid-1950s. During their fifty-five years of marriage they raised four children, and were active in the community as one of the founding members of the Jewish Congregation of Pacific Palisades (Kehillat Israel). Lois and Irv loved to go for walks to the bluffs as well as to the village. After the kids were grown, Lois worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses and, with Irv, was active in B'nai B'rith International. Upon Irving's death in 2005, Lois became active at the Palisades Recreation Center where she joined fellow seniors in line-dancing and badminton. Lois was very bright and had an excellent sense of humor. She enjoyed doing the daily LA Times crossword puzzle, jigsaw puzzles, and watching Masterpiece Theater and other BBC television programs. A few years ago Lois helped start a monthly puzzle party where she and her friends would meet monthly to socialize and assemble a jigsaw puzzle. Lois is survived by her four children David, Nancy, Judi and Debra and four grandchildren Janel, Karin, Josh, and Joey. A memorial service will be held at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, 6001 W Centinela Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045 on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00AM.
