Lon Morton Obituary
March 28, 1945 - April 17, 2017 Lon Morton passed away too young in his home surrounded by his adoring family. Lon moved with his family from Brooklyn to the San Fernando Valley when he was five years old. He joined Little League Baseball where he quickly earned a reputation as one of the best and hardest working players on the field. It was there he met his lifelong best friend, Lane Weitzman. Lon lived, breathed, and excelled at baseball. He was drafted by the L. A. Angels as a pitcher out of high school and a dream was fulfilled. He also served his country in the National Guard. Always a forward-thinking man, Lon moved from baseball to a career in business and once again earned himself a reputation as one of the best and hardest working in the field. In the 1980s, Lon established Morton Capital Management and from that he built his empire and his reputation. He was known for thinking "outside the box" and putting his clients' best interests first. He and his firm earned many accolades in the business world, one of which was being listed in the coveted Barron's top one hundred private financial advisors in the nation for many years. He loved his work, he loved mentoring people, he loved his involvement with charities, and above all, he loved his family. Lon was on the board of many charities, including The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo, Weizmann Institute of Science, The Jewish Federation, CSU Channel Islands, and was also very involved with the City of Hope. Lon had a ready smile and woke up singing every morning. He often gave advice (solicited or not) including one he lived by "you don't have to be the smartest person in the room, but always have the most integrity". He loved many and was loved by even more. Everyone felt special in his presence. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife Rocky, his two adoring daughters Alissa and Meredith (Scott), his 6 beloved grandchildren Ace, Parker, Preston, Lane, Duke and Phoenix; his brother Monty Morton (Elise), his mother-in-law, Eleanor Cristall, his brothers-in-law, Tyler Izen (Becky) and Todd Izen, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Evelyn and Arthur Morton. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 23 at 4:00 PM. You are invited to join the family to celebrate Lon's life, please RSVP to [email protected] with your name and # attending in the subject line for admittance. A response will be sent with the details. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that a donation be made to one of Lon's favorite charities listed above.
