Sister Loretta Flood Obituary
April 29, 1931 Sister Loretta Flood died peacefully on March 30, 2017 in Los Angeles California, a CSJ for 67 years. Born in San Diego, she was baptized Catherine Joyce Flood in 1931, and taught by CSJs in San Diego. Admiring the sisters' humor, happiness and spirit of service, Catherine entered the Community right after graduation. Loretta spent 20 years teaching pre-school through eighth grades. With a deep-seated desire to minister in the Black Community, Loretta received training through the National Office for Black Catholics. Her ministries were varied and included positions in pastoral work in parishes or in hospitals. She spent three years teaching English on the high school level at St. Joseph Joshi Gakuen in Japan. Loretta had the gift of knowing what needed to be done wherever she was, and could reach out in compassion to those who were hurting. We say goodbye to a woman of great faith, generosity, leadership, and patience in suffering the decline of Parkinson's. A Service of Remembrance was Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 4:30pm with the Funeral Liturgy at 6:30pm, both at Carondelet Center. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 5 at 10am at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA. Donations in memory of Sister Loretta Flood may be sent to: Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, 11999 Chalon Road, Los Angeles, CA 90049.
