May 12, 1915 - July 21, 2016 Luis Hurtado Diaz De Leon passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016 in his home in Culver City at the age of 101; he was surrounded by his loving and caring family. He was the patriarch of the Hurtado clan, and left a legacy that will live on for centuries to come. He was a true character, with a strong work ethic and was known to be full of life. Luis was born in Jalisco, Mexico and spent most of his youth in Guadalajara, Mexico. He married the love of his life Josefina Hernandez Fonseca in 1946. He worked in many trades such as bus driver, mechanic, electrician, and owned his own auto mechanic shop before immigrating to the United States in 1964. He replanted his roots in Culver City, CA where he resided until his passing. He was well known around his community due to his volunteer work with LAPD, and the city attorney's office. Travel was a passion for Luis, he traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe, Spain, Germany, Austria, Monaco, and France. In the final years of his life he was able to enjoy his house in Mexico. Luis was an inspiration to all around him and had a youthful exuberance that belied his years. He was sharp as a tack and kept up with current events. He enjoyed tinkering with old TV's, electronics and working on cars. Luis is survived by his 5 siblings, his wife of 69 years, and children Luis Jr., Francisco, Guadalupe, Gloria, Oscar, Dolores, Angelica, and Miguel. Luis leaves a legacy of 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on August 13, 2016 at 11am at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
