Lun F. Chan Obituary
November 1, 1921 - November 8, 2015 Fung Lun Chan was born in Hong Kong on November 1, 1921 and came to America as a youth. He attended Belmont High, where he played varsity tennis, served our country in WWII as a sergeant in the 298th Infantry Regiment in the Pacific, graduated from LA Trade Tech's Frank Wiggins school of Baking and spent his career making "Sweets for the Sweet" at the Phoenix Bakery in Chinatown. His accomplishments included winning a Gold Cup in baking in 1954 with the Allied Trades of the Baking Industries; 1984 president of the Master Baker, Retail Bakery Association of Southern California, and 1996 president of the Jan Ying Family Benevolent Association. As the master baker at the Phoenix Bakery, Lun created the fresh strawberry whipped cream cake-a cake that was ubiquitous at many birthday parties and weddings. Lun is survived by Dorothy, his wife for 64 years, his sister Chee Fat of Sacramento, three sons-Dolan (Arlene), Youlen (Jean) and Leland, and 6 grandchildren-Stefanie, Randy, Amanda, Alissa, Christina, and Melissa.
