Lura Otto Scoville Obituary
June 10, 1920 - February 8, 2016 Lura Otto Scoville passed away at 95 years old in San Juan Capistrano after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Lura was born in Washington, Kansas and was raised in Nelson, Nebraska. She graduated from Nelson High School in 1938 and married Don Otto in 1941 The couple moved to Long Beach and adopted identical twin boys, Don and Doug. She was a loving mother, fiercely devoted to her sons. Lura married Harmon Scoville, the Presiding Justice of the 4th District Court of Appeal, in 1976. Lura Scoville had a distinguished career beginning as a legal secretary in Long Beach. In 1966 she became the Probate Examiner for Orange County where she worked for 20 years. Lura enjoyed a statewide reputation as a scion of probate law. Lura is survived by her son Doug Otto and his wife Freda and a devoted extended family of Scoville children including Scott and Judith Scoville, Brent and Deanna Scoville, Craig and Roxanne Scoville, Karen Mann, Kristine and Robert Smith and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bayshore Community Congregational Church, 5100 East The Toledo in Long Beach. The family is asking that contributions be made to the LBCC Foundation Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.
