Lynn A. Arkin Obituary
November 7, 1922 - November 5, 2015 I never met Al Weissman. I wish I had, but he died in January, 2009. He wrote his own Los Angeles Times obituary in which he described his "current situation" in a few words.... "suffice it to say, I have died." Since I didn't "pass on," I didn't "embark on a new life," nor was I "called back" I decided "why not write my own obituary?" It may be factual (or not), embellished (or not). I arrived on our planet in 1922 and grew up in Akron, Iowa, a small northwest Iowa town near Sioux City. I served nearly 4 years in the Army during World War II, and graduated from the University of Iowa after which I practiced accounting as a CPA in Sioux City. After enduring a few midwest winters I moved to Southern California in 1969, where my labors provided enough income for a comfortable life style to support my four passions: golf, photography, travel and singing. I adopted a motto, "Never bitch about any weather that you don't have to shovel." I never regretted moving to a more favorable year-round climate. Singing and taking pictures brought me great personal joy. My parents subscribed to National Geographic for me, which along with collecting stamps, planted the seeds to travel and allowed me to visit 73 countries. I was a firm believer that golf was cheaper than a psychiatrist and healthier than booze. I've been fortunate enough to have lived a long, mostly healthy life and I've tried to keep a sense of humor, even in trying times. I leave no descendent heirs, but I am thankful for the many relatives and friends whose paths crossed mine and enriched my life. Now, I've died. (I stole that word for word from Al Weissman). I trust that whoever pays the newspapers for this obituary will provide the date and cause of my death. (November 5, 2015, at age 92, of complications from infections) A memorial gathering will be held for Lynn on Sunday, February 28th, 3-5PM, at the Daily Grill, Santa Monica.
