Malcolm Millar Lucas Obituary
California Supreme Court Chief Justice Malcolm Millar Lucas. Born April 19, 1927 in Berkeley, California. Died September 28, 2016 at his home in Beverly Hills. A 1953 graduate of the University of Southern California Law School, Lucas and his brother Campbell opened a firm in Long Beach that included former Gov. George Deukmejian. Lucas was a judge for 30 years beginning in 1967 on the Los Angeles Superior Court, the U.S. District Court in 1971 and the California Supreme Court in 1984. He was elevated to Chief Justice in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Fiorenza Courtright-Lucas, two children, six stepchildren, four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 504 North Roxbury Dr., Beverly Hills on Thursday, October 13, 1:00 pm. Donations may be made to the USC Gould School of Law.
