Malcolm S. Brook Obituary
November 5, 1925 - September 27, 2015 Peacefully passed away on September 27, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Mal was born in South Bend, Indiana where he proudly managed the Central High School basketball team under the coaching of John Wooden. After graduation, Mal served in World War II as a Corporal in the US Army and then went on to graduate from Indiana University where he was a founding member of ZBT. Mal moved to California where he met and married the Joy of his life and founded Star Finance Company. His life was made full by his love of golf, baseball, basketball, football, and most importantly, his family and friends. Mal found happiness in everything and everyone and shared his passion for life with all of those who were lucky to know and love him. He was so loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Joy; his children, Jeff and Teri Brook, Andi and Mark Waks, Sheri and Michael Abelson; his adoring grandchildren, Jennifer, Tyler, Ashten, Graham, Wesley, Drew and Zach; and his beloved brother, Melvin Brook. The Brook family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. David Reuben and his staff for their compassion, dedication and expertise in their care of families with Alzheimer's. For those who would like to make a donation in Mal's memory, the family supports the UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Program (giving.ucla.edu/geriatrics) and The Associates/IMC, Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills.
