Margaret Foley Jagels Obituary
February 25, 1922 - January 12, 2016 Margaret Melissa Foley Jagels of San Marino died peacefully at Santa Terisita Home on January 12th. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota on February 25th, 1922, she was the only child of Edward T. Foley and Jean McIntyre. She grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota until the age of nine when the family moved to California. She attended Marymount High School and matriculated to Vasser College. During World War II, she served as a volunteer for the Naval Telegraph Office at Pearl Harbor. On December 7th, 1946, she married George D. Jagels, a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher after a blind date arranged by Mr. Gibson. While raising a family in San Marino, she began a long and sincere commitment to the Southern California community. Maggie's interests ranged from education to health to community welfare to the Catholic Church. She served as a trustee for the Santa Catalina School, Loyola Marymount College and the Mayfield School of the Holy Child Jesus while joining her husband in his generous support of the Claremont Graduate School. Maggie's commitment to health organizations was extensive, serving as President of Las Madrinas (which raises funds for Children's Hospital of Los Angeles), as a board member for the Wellness Community Foundation, the Pasadena Senior Center and as an early board member for the Hathaway/Sycamore House. Her love of the greater Pasadena community also led to a life long membership in Pasadena Garden Club and the Pasadena Junior League, where she served as both a board member and President. Maggie was a devout Catholic, recognized as a Dame of Malta, a Dame of St. Gregory and a member of the Christ Child Society. She was an active, generous life long member of the St. Philips Parish in Pasadena. Maggie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years. She is survived by four children: Edward R. Jagels of Bakersfield, George D. Jagels (Shirley) of San Marino, Jeffrey F. Jagels (Gail) of La Canada and Jean Elise Vaughn (Peter) of South Pasadena. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Sarah, George S.(Beth), Jeffrey M., Albert, Timothy, Claire, Alfred, Daniel(Kimberley), and Julia Jagels, and Benjamin, Emma (Ravi Agrawal), Harrison and Anna Vaughn. During the Christmas holiday of last year, Maggie was blessed with a great grandchild, Nora "Mimi" Jagels. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to The Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. A rosary will be held at Cabot & Sons Mortuary on the evening of Friday, January 15th. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family, South Pasadena on Saturday, January 16th at 12:00.
