Maria Teresa Rogers Obituary
February 24, 1934 - October 3, 2017 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Our Mom passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2017. Teresa was born in San Francisco on February 24th, 1934 to Maria Teresa and Edward John Dollard. She took great pride in her Guatemalan, Spanish, and Irish roots. She attended Notre Dame de Victoire and Saint Dominic's Elementary Schools and Convent of the Sacred Heart High School in San Francisco. She ultimately graduated from Marymount College in Los Angeles with a Business Administration degree. She was married in San Francisco and then moved to York, Pennsylvania, where Kathleen and Michael were born. The family returned for a short stint in San Francisco where Edward was born. From there it was off to Mexico City where Maria was born and the family lived for five years. In 1969 the family returned to the states and settled in Newport Beach where she has lived ever since. Teresa taught at Lowell Elementary School in Santa Ana, CA, for 28 years where she was a bilingual/cross-cultural specialist. While holding down a full-time job and raising four children as a single mother she earned a master's degree in education from Pepperdine University. Teresa had many beloved cousins throughout Northern California. She had an extensive network of teacher, bridge, canasta and pilates friends. She travelled the world extensively throughout her life, having visited every continent. She had an active social life in church and community. She was a devoted member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church. Teresa is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, her two brothers and six nieces and nephews. Family was everything to Teresa. She was a perpetual presence in their lives, having attended every graduation, birthday, performance and holiday party. She would drive in hours of LA traffic to attend any celebratory occasion. A mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Newport Beach celebrating her life on Saturday, October 14th at 10am. There will also be a rosary and a mass in San Francisco at St. Dominic's Church on Friday, October 20th at 9:15am. She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross along side her parents and sister. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Scleroderma Foundation (scleroderma.org) in Maria Teresa Rogers' name.
