Marian Lee (Mim) Overholser

Obituary Condolences

June 7, 1916 - July 21, 2015 Mim was born in Kansas City Missouri and at the age of 21, she went to visit her Aunt in Downey, CA. While on the bus ride West, she had 2 proposals of marriage and why not, she was a lovely red head with vibrant, sparkling green eyes! Although it was the height of the depression, Mim decided look for work in Los Angeles and found a job quickly at Vultee Aircraft. It was while working at Vultee that she met Jay Overholser and they married 8 months later in November 1939. As a young couple, they both learned to fly airplanes and when World War II broke out, they joined the Civil Air Patrol, which ferried aircraft across the country. Over the years they owned an airplane and flew all over California. Mim had many hobbies and passions: master bridge player, artist, dancing, fishing, entertaining and travel to mention a few. In 1952, Mim and Jay moved to their dream home in the San Fernando Valley high on a hill where they gave many parties. All the Holidays were spent at their home where everyone they knew were invited. They began doing extensive traveling in the mid-fifties all over the world. They owned second homes in Spain and Hawaii but once they discovered Canada, this was their main passion for 40 years. They built a summer home on the Northwest Passage and spent 2 months every year fishing, canning and entertaining friends. Jay and Mim celebrated their 50th Anniversary together. They had 2 children, Alan born in 1941 and Sharyl born in 1944. Mim had a wonderful passion for life and for helping and nurturing family and friends alike. Her warmth and love of people permeated to everyone she met. Mim passed away on July 21 but played games right to the end. She was surrounded by loving friends but on Tuesday morning she decided to join her husband of 50 years. It was a beautiful, peaceful passing. She is survived by her daughter Sharyl who is married to Stephen Fainsbert, her Granddaughter Anne Knox who is married to Lars Knox and they have two children, Jacob and Rowan. Also, her niece, Rita Harwood who was like a second daughter and her husband Steve and their 3 sons, Nolan, Evan and Colin. Mim's spirited personality allowed her to journey through a truly amazing, adventurous life and it is now Sharyl, Ann and Rita's mission to carry on the wonderful legacy of a truly loving and loved person.
