Marilyn Ann Pope Obituary
Marilyn Pope, age 64, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at her home in Mesquite, NV. She was born December 11, 1952 at Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois, to Adrian Birkley and Bernice Hansen Birkley. Marilyn relocated with her family to the warmer climate of Phoenix, AZ, in 1966. Marilyn loved new experiences and while growing up she enjoyed swimming in lakes, tubing down rivers, climbing trees, hiking, boating and water skiing. After high school, she attended Business College and became interested in the field of law. While on vacation in the late 1960s she fell in love with Newport Beach, and moved there in 1974. Marilyn was incredibly ambitious and passionately pursued professional challenges. She had a successful career as a paralegal before transitioning into residential real estate. She became an avid golfer after her children entered high school and loved playing competitive golf with her first husband, Butch Pope, at the Newport Beach Country Club. Marilyn was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. She volunteered to be part of her children's education and extracurricular activities, taking active roles in the PTA, Cultural Enrichment programs, Lido sailing program, Boy Scouts and Assistance League. Marilyn and her second husband, Dave, met in 2006 and quickly relocated to Mesquite, NV, where they enjoyed their retirement together. Notable trips with their trailer include: the mountains of Southern Utah, Lake Powell, Death Valley, and Pine Valley, where they purchased a summer vacation home. Other road trip memories include visiting family in Florida, Texas, Chicago, and Southern California. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dave Beck; son, Chris Pope; daughter, Laura Pope; grandson, Jackson Pope; sister, Bonnie Troyer; and mother, Bernice Birkley. Memorial services will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on Friday, October 27 at 2:00pm. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Lymphoma Research Foundation (http://lrf.convio.net/goto/marilyn).
