Marinus "Connie" Contant Jr. Obituary
October 15, 1918 - October 1, 2016 Connie passed peacefully in his home Saturday, October 1, 2016. His loving wife, Christina was by his side. He was 97 years old (two weeks prior to his 98th birthday). Born in New Jersey on October 15, 1918. He attended Amherst University before entering Princeton where he graduated in 1941. Following Princeton, Connie continued to Yale University where he received a Law Degree in 1943. Connie was the son of Marinus and Margaret Contant (Massey). The Contant's resided in Hackensack, New Jersey. Marinus Contant, Sr. was born in Holland, and immigrated here with his parents as a young child. Connie Jr. worked in the Law firm "Sullivan & Cromwell" in New York. Circumstances led him to make a decision to move to Los Angeles. Once in Los Angeles he joined the Law firm "Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher". Eventually, Connie decided that Law was not for him and decided to go into a completely different line of work - The Machine Shop business! "Mission Machine" was soon in full operation, building aircraft-computer parts. He loved the business and it became Connie's passion. He was by nature a person that wanted to see everything lined up perfectly; always wanting to measure! A great combination - Lawyer/Engineer! Connie retired at age 50, and his focus became investing. Age didn't slow his interest. He was still actively following the stock market and his various investments. Still a master and teacher in the subject of investing. In the early 1950's Connie moved to Orange County. He was the first resident to live in "Irvine Terrace", Corona del Mar. Connie would enjoy his many friends at "Dad's" for coffee, chats and friendships. He was an avid tennis player and a member of the Balboa Bay Club for many years. He became a member of Big Canyon Country Club almost immediately, and during the last few years of Connie's life, the club became a second home. Connie loved his club in Honolulu, The Outrigger Canoe Club! He and Christina chose to be married there. Also members of the Newport Beach Country Club. Connie was very blessed with good health until the very end. Evenings were often well-planned. They involved choosing a favorite Jacket or Blazer. Finally, off to the Big Canyon CC for evening soup. He loved the great staff and no wonder, there wasn't anything they wouldn't do for him. Connie is survived by his wife, Christina; children Robert (Lucinda), and Thomas; grandchildren Robert (Jenny) Contant, Hayley (Matthew) McInrue, Blake (Jennifer) Contant; great grandchildren Waylon, Hayes & Georgia Contant, Connor McInrue; his sister Margaret Contant; step-children Gregory, Steven (Julie) Cantrell; step-grandchildren Krista, Heather, Connor Cantrell, and Casey (Josh) Jones; and the standard poodle, Tiger. Per Connie's wishes, there will be a private gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to .
