Mark F. Orfirer Obituary
May 10, 1922 - March 1, 2016 MARK F. ORFIRER, 93, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Philip and Dora Orfirer and brother of the late Alexander Orfirer. After growing up in Cleveland, Mark served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He completed medical school at Ohio State University in Columbus. There he met Lenore Rosenberg; the two married in 1950. In 1955, Mark moved the family to the Los Angeles area for a psychiatric residency; he went on to qualify as a psychoanalyst and practiced for 50 years. He was a prominent member of the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, serving two terms as the organization's President. He was directly involved in the design and construction of the Institute's beautiful headquarters building (now the New Center for Psychoanalysis). Mark had an insatiable curiosity about how things work, learning to build radios and other electronics and repair everything from cars to clocks and watches. He was also an avid tennis player. Mark is survived by his wife Lenore Orfirer, his daughter Julane Marx, his son Dennis M. Orfirer, and his grandchildren Brandon J. Gale and Naomi Roun Orfirer. A memorial will be held Sunday, April 17 at 1:00 pm at the New Center for Psychoanalysis, 2014 Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025. Those who wish to honor Mark may contribute to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (www.curealz.org).
