Mark Tenser Obituary
January 1, 2018 Mark Tenser, President and CEO of Crown International Pictures, Inc., passed away on January 1, 2018. Born in New York, Mark moved as a child with his family to Long Branch, New Jersey. An athlete and sports fan since an early age, Mark's talent erupted in high school where he won honors in Track & Field, receiving the All State Championship award in javelin and discus, and in football playing on the school's varsity team. Mark attended the University of Miami in Florida, where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. While pursuing his scholastic endeavors, Mark's interest in sports increased with the university's successful athletic programs and his support of the Hurricanes never waned - even after moving across the country to California. His passion as a sports fan was everlasting. After college, Mark began working in California with his father in sales. It was in Los Angeles that Mark met the love of his life, Marilyn Jacobs and where they both began their careers in the film industry. Utilizing his sales experience, Mark joined Crown International Pictures, Inc. as a distribution manager. Quickly becoming an integral part of the film company's independent production and distribution successes in both executive and creative positions, Mark became Crown's Executive Vice President in 1969. Then in 1973, he rose to the top post of President and Chief Executive Officer, a distinction he held until his passing. As a producer, Mark's motion picture credits included "Coach" and "The Hearse." Additionally, he was the Executive Producer on many Crown films including "My Tutor," "Weekend Pass" and "Tomboy." He was also instrumental in directing specialized ad campaigns on pictures such as "Malibu Beach," "The Pom Pom Girls," "The Van" and "Van Nuys Blvd." Fully appreciating all facets of the film business, Mark was a member of Variety Clubs International, a Premiere Circle member of AFI, an Academy Circle member of BAFTA-LA and an active member of the Executive Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, involved in the Student Academy Awards, the documentaries and foreign films committees. Mark is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn and his sister Dorothy Marder, as well as many nieces, nephews and loving godchildren. The funeral will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018, 12 noon, at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 W. Centinela Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90045. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mark Tenser to the N. P. "Red" Jacobs-Mark Tenser Memorial Scholarship Fund of Variety - The Children's Charity Southern California (https://www.varietysocal.org/), 4601 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite #260, Los Angeles, CA 90010, (323) 655-1547.
