Mark Tuttle Obituary

TUTTLE SR., Mark W. (73), passed away near his greater Los Angeles-area home on June 2, 2008. Our loving father, grandfather, brother, cousin, dear friend and colleague will be missed by all who knew him. Mark's active and successful career as a screenwriter, producer and actor spanned more than 50 years after his start at Filmways in 1957. He wrote and co-produced during six years with The Beverly Hillbillies, and later wrote some two hundred television scripts for shows such as the Hillbillies, Three's Company, and many others, as well as pilots for two networks. An active WGA and SAG member, Mark was in charge of TV development at Warner Bros. for five years, and later wrote theatrical screenplays for Sony Pictures, United Artists and Disney's Hollywood Pictures. He also acted in several commercials and network television dramatic shows. After his family, Mark's other lifelong passion was classic cars. In addition to winning numerous awards for his own, including a First-in-Class at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance, Mark served as a judge at Pebble Beach for more than 25 years as well as Chief Judge at the Newport Beach Concours D'Elegance. He was a member of the RROC, RREC and PCA car clubs, and was Chairman of the Phantom III Technical Society and Editor of its biannual journal. Mark is survived by his loving children Mark Jr., Lisa and Amy, their spouses Genie, Joe and Jack, grandchildren Alex, Jake, Riley, Monique, Jack Jr., Amanda and Alyssa, good friend and former wife Jan, half-sisters Linda and Julianne and half-brother David. Mark's great humor, intelligence, loyalty, love, bravery and talent will live on in all of us. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Humane Society of the United States (www.hsus.org). A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

I was just a little kid when I met Mark through a family "uncle" Bill Dobson and Mark's humor is something I will always remember. Nobody made Bill laugh harder. One year for Christmas Mark gave Bill a beautifully wrapped package with a brick imprinted with Muskogee. Bill loved that always.

Mark, you were the Genius behind those classic 60s - 80s comedies. Thank you for the comfort and laughs that you provided in those often tumultuous times.

We love and miss you, Dad! I hope gas is free, there aren't any potholes or speed limits and Highway 66 is still in one piece. You're in my heart forever. God speed and drive on! I call shotgun...someday.
