Martha Leslie Hess Obituary
Martha Leslie Hess passed away on June 9, 2015 at the age of 95. She was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1919 and moved to Los Angeles with her parents Martha and Harold Leslie at age 3. She went to college at USC, where she was one of only 3 women in the business school in her class. She earned her degree in Banking and Finance in January 1942. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She met her future husband Robert C. Hess at the officer's club at the Biltmore Hotel during WWII and married him in 1946. They were married for over 50 years. Together they had three children, Robert, Charles and Margaret. She was a devoted parent and actively supported her children in their activities. She loved to entertain family and friends in her home and was a wonderful cook. She travelled all over the world with family and friends and always looked forward to more adventures. Martha did volunteer work throughout her life. Among other organizations, she was active at in Ebell Juniors, Della Robbia Guild of Children's Hospital, and National Charity League. She was an active member of DAR for over 60 years. She was a member of the Costume Council and Decorative Arts Councils of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She was particularly proud of her service as a docent for the King Tut exhibit at the museum in 1978. Martha is survived by her children Robert and Margaret, her daughters-in-law Paula and Claudia, her 4 grandchildren and her great grandson. She will be sorely missed.
