January 27, 1936 - September 25, 2017 Martin Stephen Shapiro "Marty" died unexpectedly on September 25, 2017, at Eisenhower Medical Center, Rancho Mirage, California at the age of 81. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Marty is survived by his wife of 59 years, (attorney) Judith Salkow Shapiro, his daughter, Susan Salkow Shapiro Moss and her husband Michael Moss, his sons Kenneth Salkow-Shapiro and Howard Shapiro, and grandchildren Ben Shapiro, and Matilda, Clara, and Ruthie Moss. Marty was born on January 27, 1936 in New York City, New York to Bob and Dolly Shapiro. He graduated from Syracuse University with honors in 1957 with a degree in Theater Arts. He moved to Los Angeles to follow Judith after meeting and falling for her while she was in New York for the summer. They were married in 1958. After moving to Los Angeles, Marty began working in the entertainment business as an agent, a career he would continue to work in for the next 60 years. When not working, Marty was an accomplished photographer and cook demonstrating both of these talents every New Year's Day, when he and Judith hosted an open house, preparing and cooking homemade soups, salads, breads and desserts, then running around taking pictures at the party. Marty was a generous, witty, and dedicated individual, often described as gruff on the outside but a sweetheart once you got past that tough exterior. Marty loved life and was passionate about living life to the fullest. Everyone who met Marty felt his generous heart. He was active in Save a Heart Foundation charity, serving as president of the charity for several years. He loved traveling, especially to the south of France where he and Judy have had a home since 1984 and spent many summers with family and numerous friends. A funeral is scheduled for 12:30, Sunday, October 22 at Mt. Sinai, Hollywood Hills. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marty's life.
