1925 - 2015 Mary Ann Josephine Barnett (Jentges), age 90 of Newport Beach, CA, peacefully joined our Lord and savior in Heaven on Saturday, July 18, 2015. Mary Ann left a legacy of love to her son, Michael P.H. Barnett, daughter Dr. Christine Sells, daughter-in-law Joy Barnett and grandchildren Lael Eve Sells, James Andrew Sells and Juliane Michaela Barnett. She enjoyed a full life with husband, Pernel G. Barnett (deceased) and daughter, Teresa Yvonne Marie Barnett (deceased). Mary Ann was born on May 28, 1925 of immigrant parents, Harry Jentges and Gabrielle Reding on an orange ranch in Garden Grove, California. She graduated in Anaheim Union H.S. in 1943 and became Ms. Cypress in Orange County Beauty Contest in 1946. In 1950, she started a job as secretary to assistant Cashier, B of A and in 1951 she worked as a Federal Gov't Secretary GS4 steno at USMCAF in Tustin the same year she married Pernel where she worked until her retirement. She joined Harbor Key Child Guidance Center in the year 1976 and volunteered 1700 hours. She achieved the rank of Unit Commissioner in the Boy Scouts of America, Orange County Council. Mary Ann is a loving, caring wife, mother and friend. She loved good food and enjoyed going to plays with Teresa. She volunteered most of her time to be an advocate for children with Down's Syndrome and she taught bible study at St. Joachim Catholic Church. Viewing and Rosary will be held at Pacific View Mortuary, Corona Del Mar on Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 1:00-3:00pm. Funeral mass is scheduled on Friday, July 24th at 11:00am at St. Joachim Church in Costa Mesa and burial at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange at 1:00pm.
