Mary Ann Young Obituary
November 25, 1917 - March 22, 2016 Mary Ann Young passed away peacefully this Easter Season. Born in Toledo, Ohio, she was the second oldest of the thirteen children of Lawrence Jacob Langenderfer and Anna Schneider Langenderfer. After graduating from Mary Manse College she began a teaching career that would span four decades. She also earned an M.A. in English. "Mrs. Young," as she was known by her students, taught in eight different states and on grade levels from Kindergarten through High School. Her final years of teaching were at Devonshire Elementary School in the San Fernando Valley. During her tenure there, she taught Sixth Grade and earned the Distinguished Teacher Award. In addition to being a teacher, Mary Ann was the wife of Francis Roman Young, Professor of Education at Mount St. Mary's College, for 49 years until his death in 1995. She raised two sons and a daughter and was involved with her children's many activities. She was also a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church. Born before women had the right to vote, Mary Ann, a lifelong Democrat, was proud to have cast a vote for a woman Presidential candidate in 2008. Mary Ann spent her retirement years traveling internationally, enjoying her ten grandchildren and being active in her Desert Hot Springs Community. She passed her love of reading and her love of music and chocolate to her children and grandchildren. Mary Ann is survived by two sons, David Anthony Young and Francis Roman Young, Jr.; a daughter, Mary Ann Mailloux; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
