Mary Ellen Brumbach Obituary
December 2, 1938 - May 30, 2016 Mary Ellen Brumbach died Monday morning at Providence St. Joseph Hospital and the world lost a shining star, a strong, warm and generous woman who was still busy helping and entertaining others despite a debilitating struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was 77. She was generous with her time, generous with her good fortune and, most of all, generous with her love, which she showered on relatives and friends alike. She loved nothing better than to invite her wide circle of friends to the family home in Hidden Hills for lawn or dinner parties, where husband Russ served as host and chef. The annual Academy Awards gathering was a long-standing tradition. Running a close second was promoting and fund-raising for Mary Health of the Sick, a skilled-nursing facility in Newbury Park, where she was a founding member of the 100 Club. Mary Ellen was born in Chicago on Dec. 2, 1938 to Molly and John Murray, Irish immigrants from County Mayo. A proud American, she also considered herself a daughter of Erin. It was in Chicago too, that, as a graduate of Mundelein College, she met and married Russ Brumbach, who soon spirited her off to Los Angeles, where, AKA Russ Bach, he was beginning a long and successful career in the music business. They raised their children, John (Jessie), Marty (Linda) and Katy (Gabe) Roth in Woodland Hills, where Mary Ellen taught at Louisville High School and volunteered at St. Mel's CCD program. She also was active in Mission Doctors, Angels Way Maternity Home, Louisville Les Dames and Sisters of St. Louis Associates. Later came the grandchildren, Julie, Nolan and Nick Brumbach in Omaha, Jonah and Molly Brumbach in Montclair, N.J., and Lucy and Henry Roth in Woodland Hills, giving Mary Ellen more opportunity to spread her love. Her Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mel's in Woodland Hills. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mary Ann Kupper Scholarship Fund at Louisville High School, 22300 Mulholland Dr., Woodland Hills, CA 91364, will be appreciated.
