Mary Jane Kelly Obituary
March 20, 1919 - December 14, 2016 Born March 20, 1919 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to James and Edith Kelly, Mary Jane Kelly died after a full and vital life of 97 years on December 14, 2016, with family by her side. A long-time resident of Los Angeles, Jane moved to the Bay Area in 2006 to be closer to family and resided at Nazareth House San Rafael, CA since September 2015. Jane Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, her only sibling Dr. James Kelly, her husband of 56 years, Dr. Robert F. Kelly, and her daughter-in-law, Joan. Jane attended St. Mary's Academy and graduated with honors in June 1936. After studying at USC, she was employed at Bullocks Wilshire. She eventually met her brother's friend and medical school study partner, Bob Kelly. Bob and Jane were married on June 2, 1942 and made their first home near Queen of Angels Hospital where Bob was an obstetrician. Living briefly in Pasadena, the young family soon found their long-time home in the Windsor Square neighborhood. The remaining Kelly clan consists of their seven children (and spouses): Mike, Bill (Judy), Pat (Cathy), Tom (Jodi), Kate (George Kodros), Maureen (Jim Stillman), and John (Holly); Jane's nephew Jim, and niece Mary (Mike Lingbloom); eighteen grandchildren, and thirteen (and counting!) great-grandchildren. Jane was actively involved in her children's education as each progressed through local schools. In the 1970's Jane returned to the workforce as a travel agent. Jane also worked in partnership with Bob to raise funds for the Mission Doctor Association and St. Anne's Maternity Hospital. Jane's love and passion for service came from deep sources within: commitment, smart and creative planning, persistence, support from Bob, and faith in her God. Her unique style and smile are missed her friends and family. A memorial service will be held in San Rafael early next year.
