September 14, 1941 - January 12, 2018 Mary Lee Waggoner, age 76, passed away at her home in San Luis Obispo, Ca., January 12, 2018. Mary met life's challenges with grace, dignity, and humor. She was born September 14, 1941 in Waterloo, Iowa, to Dale and Ruth Irwin. Mary grew up on a farm outside of Sac City with her younger brother Edward. She graduated from Sac City High and went on to Iowa State University where she received a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. Mary Lee was president of her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. This small town farm girl had big dreams. After she graduated from Iowa State, Mary Lee took her new Chevy 2 and headed out west to Los Angeles. She started a new career at The Edison Company and met her future husband William Waggoner. They married and went back to Oklahoma University where they both received master's degrees in Social Work. Mary Lee and Bill had 3 sons, Marcus, Greg, and Jeff. She had many successes within her career then capped it off with 2 exciting years at the corporate office of PG&E in San Francisco. Mary was active in her PEO group and quilting guild. She expressed her artistic side through hand made quilts for her sons, her grandchildren, and for pleasure. Mary also loved to cook and entertain friends and family. She maintained many friendships and was sure to send out birthday and holiday cards every year. Mary Lee and Bill enjoyed world traveling and had many adventures together. Throughout their marriage they had standing Friday night dinner dates. Mary is survived by her loving husband Bill Waggoner, brother Ed Irwin, sons Greg Waggoner and his fiancée Melissa Swibel, son Jeff and his wife Tina Waggoner and 3 grandchildren, Zoey Bailie, Lucas Waggoner and Sofia Waggoner. Memorial donations can be made to Mary Lee's favorite non-profits, Transition's Mental Health Association and the SLO YMCA.
