September 29, 1923 - June 14, 2017 Mary May Mathison died peacefully surrounded by family on June 14, 2017. Mary May was born to Dorothy and Robert Macdonough in Santa Monica, California where she spent her entire life. She attended Franklin Elementary, Lincoln Middle School and Santa Monica High School where she met many friends with whom she remained close until her recent death. Her working career featured various occupations including time at Hughes Aircraft where she met her lifelong love Gordon Mathison. Married on September 8, 1945, they raised two wonderful daughters - Mary Patricia and Sally. While being an energetic mother and devoted wife, "MM" remained active in the Charity League of Santa Monica, St. Augustine's Episcopal Church and enjoyed frequent games of tennis and paddle tennis with her many friends. The Beach Club was her favorite hang out where she was a passionate bridge player. Her work ethic was well known as she contributed her excellent taste and energy to the famous eclectic gift stores, Port O' Call and Terra Cotta on San Vicente in Brentwood. Many patrons would stop by just to say hello! Mary May and Gordon travelled extensively to Europe, the Far East and Hawaii where they visited the Outrigger Canoe Club which they considered a home away from home. Devoted wife, mother, and cherished friend to all who knew her. She was known for her razor sharp wit, great sense of humor and glamorous style! Surviving family members who were honored to share Mary May's life: Daughter Mary Patricia Hotze and husband Hank Hotze of Montrose, Colorado. Daughter Sally Mekhitarian and husband Sam Mekhitarian of Los Angeles, California. Three grandchildren, Erin and Kevin Mekhitarian of Los Angeles, California and Alexander Hotze of Montrose, Colorado. No services are scheduled.
