Mary Rita Williams Obituary
April 24, 1926 - July 18, 2016 Mary Rita (Heck) Williams passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on July 18, 2016 at her home in Corona del Mar. She was 90 years old. Mary was born on April 24, 1926 in Falls City, Nebraska. In 1941, her parents Lucy B. (Sheehan) and Charles Custer Heck, along with her brother Richard and sister Catherine (Dennis), moved from Nebraska to Long Beach when Mary was 15 years old to be closer to her aging Grandmother Missouri (Stocker) Heck. She had a passion for photography which she learned while working on the high school yearbook for several years before she graduated in 1945 from Long Beach Poly High School. On January 28, 1953 she married the love of her life David L. Williams. Together they raised three children and lived their happy life in Anaheim prior to relocating to Corona del Mar in 1988. Mary and Dave enjoyed traveling together as well as spending time with family and friends. Mary dedicated her life to lovingly taking care of her family which was most important to her. She will be remembered for her unending love and devotion, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and a surrogate mom to the many children that visited the Williams household over the years. She was an excellent cook and delighted all when she made one of her special treats like tuna salad with apples, potato salad, cheese pie or grilled peanut butter sandwiches. Known for her sweet and charming personality, kind and generous spirit, she was always there to listen and offer her intuitive insights or pray to St. Jude when someone needed help beyond her abilities. She possessed a quiet inner strength which allowed her to persevere through any challenge, and with caring and compassion, she always put the needs of others before her own. All who knew her will never forget her contagious smile and beautiful sparkling blue eyes. We will miss the countless times she made us laugh with her unintentional and priceless humor. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, David; children Kathy (Michael) Pearlman, Steven Williams, and Craig (Susan) Williams; grandchildren Andrea (Brandon), Katy, Kyle, and Lacy; great-grandchildren Ethan and Alex; sister-in-law Hannah Browning and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with her wishes, the family conducted a private memorial service. We will honor her memory with a "Celebration of Life" gathering in October. Contributions can be made to her favorite charity (stjude.org). We would ask and appreciate anyone with special memories to share their stories online at Legacy.com.
