The New York Philharmonic notes with sorrow the death in Los Angeles, on October 19, of Mehli Mehta, 94, violinist and founder of the Bombay Symphony Orchestra, music director and conductor from 1965 to 1998 of the American Youth Symphony, and father of former New York Philharmonic Music Director Zubin Mehta and current Executive Director Zarin Mehta. Born in Bombay, India, Mehli Mehta was a passionate proponent of Western classical music and the mentor of generations of music students. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Tehmina, his sons, and to the entire family. Lorin Maazel, Music Director Paul B.
