Obituary Condolences

December 16, 1940 - October 25, 2015 Respected San Fernando Valley business leader Mel Kohn passed away at the age of 74 on October 25, 2015. He was the former managing partner CPA firm, Kirsch Kohn and Bridge LLP. With a soft spoken but effective style, he was active in professional, community and civic organizations, serving in leadership roles at both the state and local levels, and was the recipient of many honors and awards. A second generation Angelino, Mel was raised in Los Feliz and attended John Marshall High School before graduating from UCLA in 1963. A few years later, he settled in the San Fernando with his young family. He maintained his ties to the university as an avid Bruin football fan and supporter of the UCLA band. With a deep appreciation for the history of Los Angeles, he often took his family on Sunday drives to explore different parts of the city and was often called on by friends and family for backstreet navigation of the streets of LA. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wendy Kohn, his children Elisa Taub (Alex Taub) and Gary Kohn, his grandchildren Lindsey and Jonathan Taub, his brother Barry Kohn (Will Harrison), his mother-in-law, Helen Futterman, his brother-in-law, Steven Futterman, and his nephew, Jann Futterman. Services will be held at Mt. Sinai on October 27, 2015. Donations in Mel's memory may be made to: CSUN/Mel Kohn Endowed Fund, The Executives - Jewish Home for the Aging or The UCLA Marching Band Fund
