Michael was born in Monrovia, living in multiple cities throughout his youth. Whether it was in the desert, the mountains or at the sea, he enjoyed all that was around him. His rich background shaped his love of public spaces and urban environments, which led to his career in design, urban planning and people-oriented architecture. There were many boards and community associations that were the beneficiaries of his vast knowledge, loyalty, dedication and advocacy. He served on the Executive Committee of the Dean's Council and was president of the Alumni Association of GSAUP at UCLA. He was past president of the Westwood Homeowner's Association. Most recently he served on the Westwood Architectural Design and Review Board, and LANI (Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative). In his final days, he exhibited his long and true desire for life and his love of family. Many family members, friends and colleagues came to visit and share their stories of what he had meant to them. He will be remembered as someone who elevated everyone's lives with his warmth, kindness and intellect. He was a champion of people's dreams. Mike is survived by, his devoted wife, Eloise Lopez Metcalfe. They shared a life that was based on a deep love and admiration for each other.
