Mildred Clare Burgess Obituary
April 11, 1922 - November 16, 2015 Mildred Burgess was born on April 11, 1922 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and her family moved to Los Angeles shortly after. In 1940, Mildred became a telephone operator for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, where she worked for 26 years. She became the Chief Operator in charge of Pacific Telephone's largest Los Angeles office at the time. Mildred married Hugh Burgess on September 22, 1956, who pre-deceased her on July 17, 2009. Mildred was a devoted Catholic, and life-long fan of Notre Dame Football and Los Angeles Angels baseball. Mildred was beloved by all who knew her. Mildred Burgess is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Tom and Nancy Burgess, and Jim and Elizabeth Burgess; her four granddaughters: Casey, Sarah, Julia and Clare Burgess, as well as Deven Turner and Erin Testani. Mrs. Burgess will be memorialized at a Catholic Mass on November 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church located at 10750 Selby Avenue, Los Angeles, California, and will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
