Minna L. Gosman Obituary
August 12, 1916 - January 2, 2018 Minna Gosman, born Minnie Leniman in 1916 in Detroit, Michigan, died peacefully in her home in Westwood on January 2nd. She was 101. Minna is survived by her three children, Peter Merlin (Leni), Charles Pearlman (Nadiya) and Paula Glosserman (Phil). She leaves seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as the entire extended Zimmerman family of which she was the last of her generation. Minna was predeceased by her two younger sisters, Ethel Dechter and Udis Kupferman and by three husbands, Maurice Merlin, Jack Pearlman and Lorris Gosman. A teen during the Great Depression, Minna graduated from Wayne State University in Physical Education in order to obtain a license to teach in the public schools. She moved to California in 1944 where she continued to teach in both elementary and secondary schools. During the '60s she acquired a Master's in Public Health at UCLA. Following in her mother's footsteps, she developed her skills as a seamstress, artfully sewing her own clothes, costumes, appliqued pillows and wall-hangings. She was also a talented sculptor and artist. Many friends and family will remember her pillows given as gifts to their newborn children. Her memory will remain vivid in the hearts of all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ACLU. A memorial will be held at Minna's house on March 11, 2018 at 1pm.
