Mitsue Tomioka Austin Obituary
February 12, 1940 - January 30, 2018 Mitsue Tomioka Austin, born February 12, 1940 in Japan, passed away on January 30, 2018. Mitsue was a dynamic, respected and well loved person who lived a full, accomplished life. Mitsue became the first female helicopter pilot in Japan in 1963 at the age of 23. She then left for America where she would fly and train at Hughes Aircraft in Culver City, Los Angeles. Mitsue then went on to designing womenswear. She launched her own company Designs by Mitsu, Inc. and Kinu. After retiring from a life in design and manufacturing in the fashion industry she kept up her artistic endeavors with her love for ceramics. Her sudden death on January 30th, 2018 was a shock to all who knew and loved her. Mitsue is survived by her beloved husband Alan Austin, her 4 sisters and 1 brother, and by her only child, loving daughter Arianne Braverman Styne and her greatest joy, her granddaughter Oona Mitsue Styne. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1pm at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary, 1218 Glendon Ave., Los Angeles.
