Morton J. Bowman Obituary
February 18, 1921 - January 6, 2018 Mort Bowman, 96, passed away January 6, 2018 of natural causes. His parents were Rose and Abraham Bowman of Aurora, Illinois. He is pre-deceased by his brother, Zander. Mort moved from Aurora to Los Angeles where he graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in cinematography. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army as a military photographer. Mort was an active member of the Los Angeles Downtown Redevelopment effort in the 1970's and 80's. As owner of several retail jewelry establishments, including a partner in the development of the International Jewelry Mart, he believed in the resurgence and revitalization of the area. He was an avid LA Dodgers fan and enjoyed playing and watching golf on TV. Throughout his life, he traveled the world with his wife, Barbara, their friends and his extended family. His family were his pride and joy. He passed away knowing his three daughters grew to be happy, healthy and successful adults with families of their own. He is survived by his college sweetheart and wife of 73 years, Barbara; his daughters, Linda Caplan, Andrea Straus (husband, Joe) and Gayle Rosenberg; grandchildren, Carole Webb (Dan), Daniel Caplan, Douglas Morse, Russell Morse (Karen), Kevin Morse (Val), Meredith Tesler (Adam), Jamie Conklin (Jay), and Michelle Rosenberg; and 11 great-grandchildren, ages 2 months to 10 years. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Mort will be remembered for his dedication to his family and the legacy of loved ones he leaves behind. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 10 at 11 AM at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 W. Centinela Blvd., Los Angeles.
