Nadine Jones Pierandozzi Obituary
April 12, 1924 - July 25, 2016 Nadine Jones Pierandozzi, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of July 25, 2016 at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving family. Averil Nadine Jones was born on April 12, 1924 in Bald Knob, Arkansas, the second child of Daisy Averil and Commodore Jones. Nadine, her elder brother Commie Burnell "Barney" Jones, and her younger sister Mary Emogene Jones were inseparable as children, courting adventure and facing adversity together with great spirit and tenacity. In the early 1930s, they moved from Arkansas with their mother and their stepfather, Paul Baker, to a small mining community in Chloride, Arizona, where Paul worked as a miner and Averil cooked for the crew. Nadine learned early the lessons of privation and the virtues of hard work. Nadine graduated from Kingman High School with plans to be an actress, but ultimately set her sights on nursing as a vocation. She attended Pasadena City College, and then worked at two Army hospitals during WWII caring for injured soldiers. After the war, she joined the nursing staff at Los Angeles County General Hospital, where she met her future husband, Dr. John Pierandozzi, an intern at the hospital. They married on June 18, 1949. John and Nadine settled in Whittier, California, where John practiced at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital and they raised four children. Nadine was a devoted wife and mother whose family was always her priority. She was beautiful, stylish, colorful, funny, honest and fiercely loyal. She was always active, hiking Yosemite in her youth, an avid golfer and Club Champion at Friendly Hills Country Club, skiing with her family at Mammoth Mountain and sailing to Catalina on their boat, The Giovanni. Nadine is survived by John, her loving husband of 67 years, daughters Nancy and Kathy, sons John and Paul, son-in-law David Everingham, daughters-in-law Sandy Zeis Pierandozzi and Catherine Stringer, and grandchildren Johnny, Christopher, Michaela, Keenan, Gabriella, Lucia and Bruno. Nadine Jones Pierandozzi was a remarkable woman and a force of nature to all who knew her. The family suggests that donations in her memory be made to the The Dystonia Medical Research Foundation/other organization.
