Dear Ellen,
Nan's life was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. The memories of her courage, warmth, and humor are a precious gift to all of us.

Nan was a light in an expansive darkness that threatened to swallow her whole. She faced her pain and adversity with a gentle toughness that would make most in her company fail to recognize her unrelenting physical battles. It is with a heavy heart that I say "goodbye" to my friend from whom I have been too long estranged. I wish I would have picked up the phone to let her know that she was and will always be in my heart. She was brave, beautiful, smart and wonderful.
