Nancy Jane Cheleden Minton Obituary
March 7, 1929 - December 11, 2016 Nancy Jane Cheleden Minton, beloved wife, mom, grandma, mother-in-law, and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2016. She was surrounded by loving family until her final moments. She was 87 years old. Nancy was born in Seattle, Washington on March 7, 1929. She moved several times throughout her childhood. She has fond memories of the time she lived in Philadelphia where she lived close to much of her extended family. Nancy attended Los Angeles High School. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 1951, and after college she taught second grade in a school in the Berkeley Hills. Her classroom had a view of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. After two years she applied to teach for families in the Armed Forces because she wanted to have the opportunity to travel. She was accepted as a teacher and was sent to a US Army base 45 minutes outside of Munich in Augsburg, Germany. During her time abroad, Nancy was able to travel to Italy and Spain on school vacations and ski in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. She remembered this period as one of the most exciting times of her life. Nancy met her beloved husband, Carl Minton, in September of 1956 while teaching in Manhattan Beach at Pacific School-where three of her grandchildren would attend elementary school nearly 50 years later. Carl and Nancy were married on April 12, 1957. They had three children: Kari Minton, Julie Minton Waller, and David Minton. They raised their family in San Marino, California, and eventually they had eight grandchildren. Carl and Nancy adored their children and grandchildren. They were happily married for 54 years until Carl passed away in 2011. Nancy spent the last five years of her life in Hermosa Beach, CA-just five minutes from her daughter Julie and her family. Julie, her husband Robbie, and their three daughters adored Nancy and felt incredibly blessed to have had Nancy so close to them and to have her be such an important part of their lives. Nancy enriched the lives of everyone she met with her charm, humor, wit, warm smile, and unconditional love. Nancy will be dearly missed by her three children: Kari, Julie, and David; her son-in-law Robbie Waller; her daughter-in-law Kim Minton; and her eight grandchildren Kelsey McNeillie, her husband Mark McNeillie, Kaitlyn Rini, Kyle Rini, Hailey Waller, Lindsey Waller, Gracie Waller, Matthew Minton, and Andrew Minton. Family and friends will honor her memory with a celebration of life in January.
