Nancy Lee Heiman Obituary
February 14, 1946 - February 13, 2016 Nancy passed away peacefully in Santa Ana, California after a short battle with cancer and respiratory ailments. She was loved and admired by her companion, Mae Gale, extended family, friends, colleagues, and former students. Born in Los Angeles, California, she was a life-long Californian. The eldest of three children, she was raised in Encino, graduated from Birmingham High School and from USC, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She obtained her Masters Degree in Education from U.S. International University. She was a rabid USC and Los Angeles Dodgers fan. She taught school for 39 years and was beloved and admired by students and educators alike. Nancy lived in her home in Costa Mesa for 34 years. She loved her many fruit trees and was very generous with their produce to friends and family. Enjoying going to movies, she would often walk to nearby theatres from her home. Post-retirement, she and Mae traveled far and wide, often and with great gusto. While working and helping care for her parents in the 1990's, she did little traveling. Thus, one of her very first trips, after retiring, was to be a "leaf peeper" with Mae on the East Coast-something unattainable in October, while teaching. She had dogs her entire life, and cherished her current dog, eleven year old Sophie, the Newfoundland who has brought Nancy great joy. Many hobbies and interests kept Nancy busy, post-retirement: playing bridge; enjoying her luck at various casinos; travel, attending plays and sporting events and spending time with friends and family. All of this brought her joy and memory-filled adventures. She was an avid scrap-booker of photos from her many trips. She delighted in sharing these photos with friends and family and quickly compiled the photo albums, trip by trip. She served on the Board of Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation. Nancy is survived and lovingly missed by Mae; Sophie; siblings Barbara Jane Heiman Holt Harmon (Jeff) and Edward Lange Heiman, Jr.; nephews Christopher William Holt (Kristina) and Matthew Gabriel Holt (Michelle). She adored her 3 great-nephews and great-niece: Christopher and Kristina's Merick (6), Lily (3), Hudson (7 months) and Matthew and Michelle's Asher (4). A memorial service and luncheon for friends and family to celebrate Nancy's life will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 12 noon-3:00 p.m. at Costa Mesa Country Club, located at 1701 Golf Course Drive, Costa Mesa, CA. If so inclined-and in lieu of flowers-contributions in Nancy's honor may be sent to the Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation (P.O. Box 1638, Newport Beach, CA 92659) or to the Irvine Animal Care Center (6443 Oak Canyon, Irvine, CA 92618).
